Approximately 20 Toronto Symphony Orchestra musicians will perform live at the outdoor concert and entertainment venue CityView Drive-In beginning on October 7, in what the orchestra says is the largest ensemble performance since the arrival of the pandemic. Tickets are $80–$200 per car for the hourlong concerts, with the opening event on October 7 featuring jazz and ragtime music by Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, and George Gershwin, led by Regina Symphony Orchestra Music Director Gordon Gerrard. On October 16, Concertmaster Jonathan Crow will conduct and serve as soloist in a chamber program of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Gabriela Lena Frank’s Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout, and Dinuk Wijeratne’s “A letter from the After-life” from 2 Pops Songs on Antique Poems. The October 17 concert with blues vocalist Shakura S’Aida will feature music popularized by artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, and Beyoncé. TSO Principal Education Conductor and Community Ambassador Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser will lead the concert.
