“Toronto Symphony Orchestra fans who miss going to concerts can visit Roy Thomson Hall virtually with the ‘TSO on Demand’ series,” writes Debra Yeo in Monday’s (10/5) Toronto Star (Canada). “The eight concerts [will] be filmed in high definition at the venue—with a reduced number of players, and all musicians and staff masked and physically distanced…. The series will include … Beethoven, Mozart and Mahler, but also more diverse voices, including Black 18th-century composer Joseph Bologne, Odawa First Nations composer Barbara Croall and Sri Lankan-born Canadian composer Dinuk Wijeratne. The concerts kick off with ‘The Ultimate Guide to Eating Halloween Candy’ … a young people’s concert…. Next up is ‘Kings of Ragtime’ … conducted by Gordon Gerrard and hosted by principal pops conductor Steven Reineke. ‘Vivaldi’s Four Seasons’ … features concertmaster Jonathan Crow.… ‘Gimeno + Beethoven 7’ … has Gustavo Gimeno taking the podium for the first time as TSO music director while ‘Holiday Pops’ … has Reineke hosting a selection of Christmas carols and other holiday songs. Two Beethoven programs with Gimeno conducting conclude the series: ‘Gimeno + Beethoven 6’ … and ‘Beethoven Septet.’… Tickets will provide unlimited viewing for seven days after each concert’s release.”
