The New York Youth Symphony has announced that violinist Midori will be in residence, virtually, with the orchestra from October 11 to 24, as part of Midori’s long-running Orchestra Residencies Program. Sessions will take place over Zoom, and will include a masterclass as well as workshops on how to practice, leadership and advocacy in music, plus a presentation for parents on how to support their children’s musical endeavors. In addition to her work as a concert violinist, Midori is founder and manager of the New York City-based music education nonprofit Midori & Friends, and the Japan-based MUSIC SHARING foundation, presented in schools, institutions, and hospitals. The New York Youth Symphony operates free programs in orchestral training, conducting, chamber music, jazz, and composition for student musicians in New York City between the ages of 12 and 22.
