The Mobile Symphony Orchestra will open its 2020-21 season at the Saenger Theatre in Mobile, Alabama on October 17 with a one-hour all-strings program featuring Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Mozart’s Divertimento in D, Grieg’s Holberg Suite, and George Walker’s Lyric for Strings, led by Music Director Scott Speck. Following current guidelines, the MSO can admit 400 people to the 1,900-seat theater, with masks required for audience and musicians. The orchestra’s season will feature programs in November, December, January, March, May, and June. Each concert weekend will include Saturday performances at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and Sunday performances at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.; the theater will be sanitized between performances. All concerts will be professionally video recorded and made available for purchase online. The orchestra’s originally planned season-opening concert in September 2020 will take place in June 2021, featuring music by Grieg, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Kevin Puts.
