“The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is set to acquire Opus 3 Artists, the internationally prominent management firm,” writes Joshua Kosman in Tuesday’s (10/20) San Francisco Chronicle. “The deal—the first of its kind, according to the Conservatory—was made possible by a financial investment from an anonymous donor….…. Under the terms of the agreement, which is effective immediately, Opus 3 will continue to operate as an independent, for-profit corporation under the leadership of President and CEO David V. Foster, while [Conservatory President David] Stull will chair a management team overseeing the alliance between the two entities…. Opus 3 … maintains a roster of more than 150 artists, ranging from conductor Teddy Abrams to … cellist Yo-Yo Ma…. The coronavirus pandemic … has created a difficult economic environment for artistic management firms. In August, Columbia Artists Management Inc. … ceased operations after 90 years. ‘The economics of the industry has changed, and … we have an interest in ensuring that there’s a pipeline for young artists who come out of the Conservatory,’ Stull said. Plans for the partnership include an array of collaborations between Opus 3 artists and the school.”
