Due to a statewide “two-week freeze” in Oregon from Nov. 18 through Dec. 2 that mandates the closure of indoor entertainment venues, Eugene Symphony was not able to present its November 19 concert featuring a chamber ensemble of 32 musicians at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts. Instead, the orchestra will present a video of “The Color of Sound,” an April 2019 concert that featured the orchestra and pianist Christopher Taylor in Scriabin’s Prometheus: The Poem of Fire and The Poem of Ecstasy. The streamed event will include new introductions from Music Di-rector Francesco Lecce-Chong, interviews from collaborative partner Harmonic Laboratory, and a showcase of work by digital media artists that accompanied the orchestra’s performance. The video will be available as a one-time, free streaming event at the Eugene Symphony website on November 29, with a suggested donation of $15 per household; afterward, the video will be available on demand for Eugene Symphony donors and members who give at least $300 per year. A virtual concert originally planned for November 29, featuring three works for strings by women composers along with Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony, will be performed at a date to be determined.
