Ohio’s Firelands Symphony Orchestra has released the introductory episode for its new virtual music education series for adults, entitled “Miss Jody’s Monday Music Minutes,” hosted by Jody Chaffee, the orchestra’s principal piccolo, second flutist, personnel manager, librarian, and director of the FSO’s music education outreach programs at area schools. The thirteen-part series, geared toward adult music enthusiasts, will continue through March 8, 2021, with weekly episodes at the orchestra’s website and its Facebook and YouTube pages. Details for two additional virtual series to begin in January will be announced; those include interactive six-week Zoom sessions with Music Director Carl Topilow and Chorale Director Michael Shirtz, called “Conversations with Carl: A Personal Tour of His Orchestral Conductors’ Career Handbook” and “Celebrate Brubeck’s Centennial with FSO’s Michael Shirtz,” respectively. Jody Chaffee was one of five orchestra musicians to receive Ford Musician Awards for Excellence in Community Service from the League of American Orchestras in 2018. The awards, in their fifth year, are made possible through the generosity of Ford Motor Company Fund.
