Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society has named ROBERT N. SHAPIRO as chairman of its Board of Governors. Shapiro is senior consultant and retired CEO of Ropes Wealth Advisors. He has served on the Handel and Haydn Society board since 1993. He has been a trustee of the Peabody Essex Museum for more than 25 years and served as president of the museum’s board from 2005 to 2020. He is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard. From 2006 to 2012 he was a member of the Board of Overseers of Harvard University, having previously been president of the Harvard Alumni Association and president of the Harvard Law School Association. He has served as a trustee of Phillips Exeter Academy and of Noble and Greenough School. Shapiro received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College, concentrating in philosophy. He began his career as an English teacher at Noble and Greenough School and at Exeter Summer School, and received his law degree from Harvard Law School. He joined Ropes & Gray in 1979 for law practice, remaining there until 2016.
