Violinist Pinchas Zukerman and cellist Amanda Forsyth will perform with Rhode Island Philharmonic musicians and dancers from Festival Ballet Providence for two performances on January 9 at Veterans Memorial Auditorium (VETS) in Providence. The concert, featuring Strauss waltzes and music by Schubert and Kreisler, will be performed in person for subscribers at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., with the latter performance also available via livestream. Among those performing will be Philharmonic Concertmaster Charles Dimmick, Principal Viola Abagail Cross, Principal Bass Barry Boettger, Principal Flute Susan Thomas, and Principal Clarinet Ian Greitzer, plus Metropolitan Opera pianist Brian Wagorn and the Handel and Haydn Society’s Ian Watson on harmonium. Ballet dancers will perform choreography by Yury Yanowsky. Subscribers and virtual ticket buyers who purchase far enough in advance will be invited to a private Zoom conversation moderated by Executive Director David Beauchesne on January 6 to discuss the program with some of the artists involved, and to receive an update on planning for the second half of the Philharmonic’s 2020-21 season, set to begin in March. During the pandemic, the orchestra has been performing virtual programs, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School has also moved online.
