Chicago-area musicians in grades 6 through 12 are invited to apply to the Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative (CMPI) for the 2021-22 academic year. CMPI was launched in 2019 to prepare student musicians from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds to successfully audition for college-level music programs. Applications are due February 5 for the program, which focuses on classical music instruction for students who have demonstrated aptitude and interest in pursuing intensive study and a career as a professional performing musician. The program is being offered virtually during the pandemic. Students in the program receive financial support, weekly private lessons, ongoing written and verbal feedback, master classes, and mock auditions with Chicago Symphony Orchestra musicians, plus monthly mentorship for the entire family.
