Oregon’s All Classical Portland radio station has launched “Recording Inclusivity Initiative: Changing America’s Playlist” to address what it describes as “the representation gap of classical composers underrepresented on today’s classical music airwaves.” The Recording Inclusivity Initiative will produce and release five new high-quality and broadcast-ready recordings of works by classical composers from underrepresented communities in its first year. As part of the launch, All Classical Portland is also challenging listeners and the arts community to nominate composers. Five Challenge Awardees will have their music recorded, released, and broadcast on All Classical Portland. Two living composers will be offered a weeklong composer residency to include in-studio recording sessions and a $2,500 award. The initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the N M Bodecker Foundation and the Naxos Records label. Learn more about the Recording Inclusivity Initiative at https://recordinginclusivity.allclassical.org/; nominations are being accepted through February 12, 2021.
