Colour of Music Black Classical Musicians’ Festival, Feb. 3-7

The Colour of Music Black Classical Musicians’ Festival will present five days of chamber-music performances from February 3 to 7, to be performed virtually from the festival’s home in Charleston, South Carolina as well as in Nashville, Tennessee. The festival will launch with a percussion-and-piano program featuring percussionist Sean Daniels and pianist Lawrence Quinnett performing Daniels’s own Third Stream Inspired for Solo Marimba, plus music by J.S. Bach, Clair Omar Muster, Toshiro Mayuzumi, and Paul Creston. Other programs will feature Mendelssohn’s Octet in E-flat Major; Valerie Coleman’s Umoja for String Quartet; the Concert Fantasy on Theme from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess (arr. Frolov); Franck’s Sonata in A Major and Mozart’s Sonata in E Minor, K. 304 for violin and piano; and Astor Piazzolla’s Five Tango Sensations. The Colour of Music Festival highlights Black classical composers and performers from the U.S. and internationally; Lee Pringle is founder and artistic director of the organization, founded in 2013.
