The inaugural Piazzolla Music Competition is accepting submissions through April 18, 2021. The virtual competition, a partnership between PARMA Recordings and Argentina’s Fundación Astor Piazzolla, is being held to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of composer, bandoneonist, and arranger Astor Piazzolla (March 11, 1921–July 4, 1992). The competition is open to instrumentalists, singers, and ensembles who have an affinity for Piazzolla’s music. The jury will comprise performing arts executives and arts managers, plus classical and tango musicians including Pablo Ziegler, Héctor del Curto, David Binelli, Cesere Chiacchiaretta, Arthur Gottschalk, Walther Castro, Pablo Petrocelli, and Sandra Rumolino. Grand prize winners will receive a cash prize, recording deal with PARMA Recordings, and performance tour in China. Additional prizes will be awarded, including concerts in the 2022-23 season with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Grosseto Symphony Orchestra, or Athens Philharmonia Orchestra. Finalists will be announced in May, and the winners will be announced on June 15, 2021. More information is available at https://www.piazzollacompetition.com.
