“Three Ohio orchestras are collaborating for the first time on a new piece of music that is inspired by schoolchildren,” writes Janelle Gelfand in Friday’s (3/26) Cincinnati Business Courier (OH). “Members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra and Columbus Symphony are recording one movement each of a new, 12-minute piece composed by Brian Raphael Nabors. The music will be played over loudspeakers or virtually to children in 260 schools—229 in Ohio—in May. The project is part of Mindful Music Moments, a program of the Well, a local nonprofit funded by ArtsWave. It brings classical music to schools so children can prepare their day with three minutes of calming focus…. Nabors, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, has scored the new work for string quartet in four movements. The finale will feature the musicians of all three orchestras…. Local filmmaker Asa Featherstone is documenting the process. The music is being mastered by Cincinnati Public Radio recording/master engineer Stephen Baum…. The piece will also be released on a new patient wellness channel at UC Health and on social media in early June. It is a commission by Dr. John and Susan Tew.”
