“Mission: Commission” podcast to track compositions-in-progress by Balter, Bryan, and Thomas

Columbia University’s Miller Theatre has announced a six-episode podcast entitled Mission: Commission, featuring three composers: Marcos Balter, Courtney Bryan, and Augusta Read Thomas. The podcast follows the creative process of the three composers, who have been given six weeks to create newly commissioned works. Balter is writing a work for harpist Parker Ramsay; Courtney Bryan is writing a work for trombonist Andrae Murchison and herself on piano; and Augusta Read Thomas is writing a work for percussionist John Corkill. The first episode of the podcast, hosted by Miller Theatre Executive Director Melissa Smey, will be on Tuesday, April 13 and will continue weekly through May 18, when completed works will be revealed.
