Pennsylvania’s Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras has appointed PIERCE COOK as the next conductor of its Symphonette string ensemble. Cook will begin at the start of the 2021-22 season; outgoing Symphonette Conductor Andrew Wickesberg will remain through the end of the current season. Brian Worsdale is music director of Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras. Cook, a conductor, educator, and instrumentalist, is a native of Arlington, Virginia, and moved to Pittsburgh in 2000 to attend Duquesne University. He is director of orchestras at Mellon Middle School in Mt. Lebanon where, in addition to leading the Chamber Orchestra, he helped launch a music tutoring club for students and added a pops orchestra and a program for student-formed ensembles. Cook has taught private lessons since 2005 and served as the bass coach for Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra for more than a decade. Cook’s South City Jazz group has performed for more than 15 years, and he was a founding member of the Three Rivers String Quartet, in which he was a cellist.
