On May 27, the Florida Orchestra will perform a pay-what-you-can concert featuring Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 (“Emperor”), with soloist Natasha Paremski, led by Music Director Michael Francis. The concert was added to the schedule just prior to the orchestra’s season-ending May 29 and 30 performances of the “Emperor” Concerto and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 (“Scottish”) at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. The May 27 concert will be offered as one of the orchestra’s “Inside the Music” concerts, in which Francis discusses a single musical work in depth; the evening will culminate in a performance of the full concerto. The orchestra, which normally performs at three Tampa Bay area venues, has been performing exclusively at the Mahaffey Theater during the 2020-21 season, with safety protocols in place, due to the pandemic.
