The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Stilian Kirov have announced a seven-concert 2021-22 season, to launch in October with “Andante Moderato” from Florence Price’s String Quartet in G major, Eric Ewazen’s Down a River of Time, and Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, joined by members of the Joffrey Academy of Dance in new choreography. A November program of Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Winds and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 will feature IPO principal soloists Naomi Bensdorf Frisch (oboe), Trevor O’Riordan (clarinet), Erin Kozakis (bassoon), and Lee Shirer (horn). Featured soloists will include violinist Rachel Barton Pine, who will perform Joseph Bologne’s Violin Concerto in G major, Op. 8, No. 9 with the orchestra, and pianist William Wolfram in Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Other composers for the season include Michael Abels, Brahms, Dvořák, Ravel, William Grant Still, Augusta Read Thomas, and composer in residence Martha Horst. Music by three finalists in the orchestra’s annual Classical Evolve composition competition will be performed on September 22, with the winner named the orchestra’s 2022-23 composer in residence at the concert’s conclusion. Performances take place at Ozinga Chapel on the campus of Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights.
