The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra in Connecticut has appointed HEIDI STUBNER as executive director. Stubner, who began at the Waterbury Symphony on July 1, is an arts administrator and professional musician. As a New York-based violinist, she was long-time member of the American Symphony Orchestra, Bard Music Festival, and Broadway shows as well as a recitalist and chamber musician nationally and abroad. For over a decade, she was the founder, artistic, and executive director of the Hudson Highlands Music Festival in New York’s Hudson River Valley. Previously, Stubner served as managing director of Horizon Concerts, an organization that brought music to nursing homes, senior centers, homeless shelters, and AIDS hospices. She served as assistant dean at Manhattan School of Music for nine years and was on the faculty at Bard High School Early College, where she also engaged in fundraising. Before joining the Waterbury Symphony, Stubner was the vice president and associate director of the Medical Musician Initiative in NYC, which supports healing that incorporates music as medicine. Leif Bjaland is the Waterbury Symphony’s music director.
