The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra (LSO) in Pennsylvania has appointed cellist SARA MALE as chair of its board of directors. Male succeeds Mary Ellen Davis, who served as board chair beginning in 2017. Male has performed with the Lancaster Symphony for ten years, most recently as acting principal cello. She also chairs the LSO’s education committee. Male received an associate of the arts in music degree from Victoria Conservatory of Music in Canada, a bachelor of music from Rutgers University, and a master of music degree from Mannes College of Music. Male has performed as a recitalist and soloist in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia. She is the founding cellist of the Lancaster-based Newstead Trio, and in 2012 she founded Duo Chiaroscuro with pianist Maria Corley. Male also collaborates in chamber-music programs with her husband, Peter Kenote, a violist in the New York Philharmonic. In addition to the Lancaster Symphony, Male performs with the Reading Symphony, Kennett Symphony, and Harrisburg Symphony, and is an assistant professor of cello at Franklin & Marshall College and adjunct professor of cello at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania.
