The Oregon Symphony has launched “Notations: Personal Journeys Bridging Culture and Music,” a new biweekly digital series featuring five Oregon musicians sharing performances and their personal stories. The musicians are: folk singer/songwriter/guitarist M. Ward, Oregon Symphony violinist Keiko Araki, composer Andy Akiho, Oregon Symphony violinist Inés Volgar, and jazz musician Darrell Grant. In the series, each artist shares details of their ancestry, culture, and lived experiences and explores how those histories permeate their works as musicians. Each episode culminates with a performance that includes Oregon Symphony musician. “We are excited to showcase the diversity of Oregon artists and the experiences and traditions that influence the work they create,” says Oregon Symphony President and CEO Scott Showalter. “Through digital programs like Notations, Oregon Symphony highlights the intricate cultural fabrics that weave our community together through the power of music.” The program joins the orchestra’s other digital offerings, which include includes “Essential Sounds,” “Symphony Storytime,” and “Carlos@18.” For more information, click here.
