“The Newport Music Festival is extending its programming by launching a chamber music series and also free community concerts,” reads an unsigned article in Friday’s (8/6) Newport Daily News (RI). “The chamber music series will be performed at the organization’s new home base at Emmanuel Church…. Community concerts will be held in green spaces across Aquidneck Island. [Chamber] concerts will be approximately 90 minutes long, without intermission, and followed by a talk with the artist. The fall chamber series schedule is as follows: Thalea String Quartet, Sept. 10; Kristin Lee Oct. 8; and Sara Davis Buechner, Nov. 19.… The community concerts [will include] the Westerlies … at Miantonomi Park in Newport on Sept. 12. Additional concerts will be announced later this season. The Newport Music Festival will also coordinate educational programs with each group or artist … offering under-resourced children the opportunity to have interactive encounters with … musicians….. Newport Music Festival Executive Director Gillian Friedman Fox said … the new recital hall opens doors … that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. ‘By relocating the organization into the heart of Newport and launching a meaningful Chamber Series and Community Concerts line-up, we are further cementing our role in the cultural fabric of the community,’ she said.”
