Tovey was one of a number of guest conductors who led the orchestra … before the coronavirus pandemic…. Tovey served 18 years as music director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra…. He continues as principal conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra and served as artistic director of the Calgary Opera and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, where he created the now 30-year-old international New Music Festival…. Tovey has agreed to a five-year contract that begins Sept.1, including one year as music director designate followed by four years as music director…. The orchestra also is adding a special concert Oct. 30 called ‘Tovey: The Adventure Begins.’ … Tovey also will be actively involved in helping the orchestra create its own … building for performances and education…. Tovey said … he will be moving to Rhode Island, where he serves as artistic advisor the Rhode Island Philharmonic and then begin looking for a residence in Sarasota.”
