“The Britt Festival Orchestra has hired a new general manager for the 60th anniversary season of the Britt Music & Arts Festival,” reads an unsigned article in Thursday’s (10/29) Mail Tribune (Medford, OR). “Following a national search, BFO will welcome Renia Shterenberg as its new GM. Shterenberg, who performed as a violinist for BFO from 2004 through 2011, has most recently been … the executive director of the Olmos Ensemble, a … successful chamber music group based [in San Antonio, Texas].… The BFO also announced that its 2022 season will be held June 17 through July 3, five weeks earlier than it has been historically held. This change is being made in response to many successive years of wildfire smoke brought on by climate change, the orchestra said…. Following several moves to the North Medford High School auditorium and other locations, plus concert cancellations during several BFO seasons because of unhealthy wildfire smoke, the Britt Board of Directors and BFO have decided to move the orchestra season earlier in the summer, when wildfire smoke does not normally impact outdoor concerts…. Music Director Teddy Abrams and the orchestra are preparing for the new season, and the full BFO concert program will be announced in early 2022.”
