South Carolina’s Spartanburg Philharmonic has announced nine finalists for music director. They are Antoine T. Clark, John Young Shik Concklin, Kelly Corcoran, Kayoko Dan, Nadege Foofat, Jacob Joyce, Geneviève LeClair, Lee Mills, and Troy Quinn. (Several of these conductors participated in the League of American Orchestras’ Bruno Walter National Conductor preview.) Concklin, Corcoran, Dan, and LeClair will conduct concerts during the current season, with Kayoko Dan already having made her debut on September 18, 2021. The remaining five finalists will lead the orchestra in performances during the 2022-23 season and will submit program recommendations for that season as part of their interview process. Audience members will have an opportunity to meet the candidates after each performance, and the new music director, to be announced in spring 2023, will begin during the orchestra’s 2023-24 season.
