Symphony Tacoma in Washington has announced that its “Mini Maestros” series of 45-minute family concerts will comprise four programs in winter and spring of 2022. In accordance with current Washington State mandates and safety protocols, all patrons ages 5 and up will be required to show proof of vaccination or results of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the concert date. Masks are also required for anyone over the age of 2, whether or not they have been vaccinated. The first concert in the series will be on February 6, an introduction to the string section of the orchestra featuring the Symphony Tacoma String Quintet. Programs on February 27 and March 20 will focus on the brass and percussion sections, respectively, and the full orchestra will perform Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf on May 1. Educator and emcee Shay Ryan will introduce instruments and musical concepts, while Symphony Tacoma musicians will demonstrate through songs that children can respond to by singing, dancing, marching, and clapping. Concerts include an instrument “petting zoo” one hour before the performances
