Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra is accepting applications through February 7 for a new mentorship program for pre-professional and early-career professional orchestral musicians and conductors from around the world. The bilingual program is open to Canadian and international orchestral musicians ages 18 and up; the conducting program in 2021-22 is open only to Canadian candidates, who should be in their final year of study in a conducting program or in the early stages of their career. A limited number of participants in associated fields such as composition, arts administration, and production may participate in the program by invitation. NACO will also invite conductors, composers, arts administrators, and stage technicians to take part in one-on-one mentorship. The three-week program will take place in Ottawa from May 31 to June 17, 2022. Program participants will be provided with free lodging, a meal allowance, travel subsidies, and an honorarium. NACO Creative Partners Adrian Anantawan and James Ehnes (both violinists) will be involved throughout the program; additional guest artists will be announced in the coming months.
