Thursday’s Hub included a news article about the Firelands Symphony Orchestra’s concert on January 16 honoring local Tuskegee Airmen. A few hours after The Hub was posted, the Firelands Symphony announced that the concert, “Portraits of American Heroism,” has been cancelled due to the pandemic. The orchestra stated: “Due to growing COVID concerns and in the interest of safety for their patrons and musicians, The Firelands Symphony Orchestra (FSO) has made the difficult decision to cancel their ‘Portraits of American Heroism’ patriotic pops concert on Sunday, January 16. ‘It was not an easy decision, but after reviewing the growing number of COVID cases and speaking with our local health officials, the Board of Directors elected to cancel the event and keep our patrons, musicians, staff, and volunteers safe during this turbulent time,’ said Executive Director Tricia Applegate…. Current ticket-holders for the cancelled January 16 concert will be contacted with various options including: donate their ticket dollars in support of the FSO, exchange for a future concert, or receive a refund.”
