Colorado’s Arapahoe Philharmonic and Symphony Tacoma in Washington State are among orchestras that have recently rescheduled children’s concerts, due to the surge in COVID-19 cases. Symphony Tacoma has canceled two February in-person Mini Maestros concerts designed for children ages 2 to 8 and their families. The February 6 “Once Upon a String” Mini Maestros concert has been canceled; the “3-2-1 Brass Off!” concert, originally scheduled in person on Feb. 27, will instead be live-streamed free of charge and will be available on demand after the premiere. The Arapahoe Philharmonic has moved its February 25 in-person “Music Around the World” concert to April 1; in announcing the postponement, the orchestra said that many schools have suspended field trips for several weeks due to COVID.
