The New Jersey Youth Symphony will present “A Concert for Peace” on February 26 at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway. Artistic Director Helen Cha-Pyo will conduct the concert, featuring Marvin Hamlisch’s 1991 Anatomy of Peace, a Symphonic Suite in One Movement and Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony No. 1 (“Jeremiah”) for Orchestra and Mezzo-Soprano. Hamlisch’s Anatomy of Peace, based on a book by Emery Reves about reconciliation and world peace, was originally commissioned by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the naming of the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center’s outdoor structure, the Emery Reves Arch of Peace. The New Jersey Youth Chorus and mezzo-soprano Cierra Byrd will also perform in the concert. NJYS is a program of the Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts, which serves more than 1,500 students through a range of programs, including the Paterson Music Project and Performing Arts School.
