Philadelphia’s Mann Center for the Performing Arts has announced plans for its 2022 outdoor summer season at Fairmount Park. The Mann Center is launching two multi-year partnerships, one with the Philadelphia Orchestra this summer through the 2027 season, and the other with the Philadelphia-based contemporary ballet company BalletX. This summer, the Philadelphia Orchestra will offer three July performances, starting with a “Tchaikovsky Spectacular” with fireworks on July 21, featuring Symphony No. 4, the Rococo Variations, and the 1812 Overture. The orchestra will present “Ledisi Sings Nina,” a tribute to Nina Simone, with R&B/jazz/songwriter Ledisi on July 22; and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Concert on July 23, with the score played live as the film is shown on the Mann’s 40-foot main stage screen as well as on two giant screens on the Mann’s Great Lawn. “With this five-year partnership, we will broaden and deepen our collaboration well into the future,” said Matías Tarnopolsky, president and CEO of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Kimmel Center. “We look forward to welcoming audiences for extraordinary artistic programs and engaging community and education initiatives.”
