The New Haven Symphony Orchestra has announced that it will be in residence at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven for the 2022-23 academic year. The residency will include on-campus concerts, classroom visits, hands-on learning experiences, and internships. The main performance venue for the eight-concert 2022-23 classics series will be the university’s 1,500-seat Lyman Center for the Performing Arts. Concert dates and repertoire for the 2022-2023 season will be announced later this spring. The orchestra’s concerts and administration will be at the center of the curriculum for students pursuing the university’s new arts administration courses and cultural advocacy minor, with additional on-campus events and lectures for students of varying majors. The orchestra will perform two concerts at the Lyman Center this month: Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony and music from the opera The Snowy Day by NHSO Composer in Residence Joel Thompson (March 18), and two young people’s concerts (March 27 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.).
