On March 26, Symphony Tacoma will perform the world premiere of David Ludwig’s The Bleeding Pines on a concert also featuring Beethoven’s Fantasy for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra (“Choral Fantasy”) and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. Music Director Sarah Ioannides will conduct the concert at the Pantages Theater, which also will feature pianist Pallavi Mahidhara and Symphony Tacoma Voices. Ludwig’s work draws on themes from Beethoven’s “Choral Fantasy” and is based on a play by poet Ray Owen about North Carolina’s endangered Round Top Long Leaf Pine forest and efforts to save it. Ludwig was the orchestra’s composer in residence from 2019 to 2021.
