“One of the summer’s marquee outdoor music events will appeal to fans of The O’Jays, disco music, patriotic tunes and The Best Damn Band in the Land,” writes Peter Tonguette in Friday’s (4/15) Columbus Dispatch (OH). “The Columbus Symphony announced Wednesday the schedule for the 2022 edition of Picnic with the Pops. The symphony will provide orchestral support for assorted pop and rock acts in concerts to take place in June and July at John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons.… The R&B group The O’Jays … will kick off the series…. The symphony will present ‘Boogie Wonder Band,’ featuring disco music and, for those audience members who choose to dress like it’s 1979, a ‘best dressed disco dancer’ contest…. ‘Patriotic Pops’—featuring the symphony performing music to celebrate Independence Day as well as a fireworks show—will return…. [In] ‘Landslide—A Tribute to the Music of Fleetwood Mac’ … a complete rock band joins the Columbus Symphony…. The schedule will wrap up, as it traditionally does, with the symphony pairing with the Ohio State University marching band for two shows… Most [shows] will be led by Principal Pops Conductor Stuart Chafetz.”
