On May 6, the Houston Symphony will perform the commissioned world premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s Duo Duel for Two Percussionists and Orchestra at Jones Hall. Higdon’s new work will feature Associate Principal Timpani and Percussion Matthew Strauss and guest percussionist Svet Stoyanov; Robert Spano will guest-conduct the performance, which also will feature Christopher Theofanidis’s Rainbow Body—which was a Houston Symphony world premiere commission originally conducted by Spano in 2000—and Aaron Copland’s Symphony No. 3. The same program will be performed on May 7 and 8; the May 7 concert will be live-streamed.
