North Carolina’s Charlotte Symphony has announced details of its summer 2022 season, including pops concerts, performances at local breweries, and free community concerts. This summer will represent the orchestra’s first summer pops concerts at Symphony Park at South Park since 2019. The season begins with a June 12 “Swing Into Summer” tribute to the big-band era with music by George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, and others, led by Resident Conductor Christopher James Lees. Concerts on June 19 and 26, respectively, will feature music from movies including Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean, and West Side Story, and a program of Broadway music and opera. The June 22 “Celebrate America” concert at Truist Field will present patriotic music and a fireworks display. The orchestra will offer six free community concerts in June and July throughout the Charlotte region, including Little Rock A.M.E. Zion Church (Charlotte) as well as in Matthews, Huntersville, Cornelius, Pineville, and Kannapolis. Two “On Tap” concerts (June 14 and 28) are planned at Cabarrus Brewing in Concord and Triple C Brewing in South End. The orchestra will perform Jurassic Park in Concert at Charlotte’s Ovens Auditorium (June 25) and The Music of the Rolling Stones at Belk Theater (July 2).
