“The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra has added two high-profile performances to its 2022-2023 season,” writes Victoria Moorwood in Wednesday’s (5/4) Cincinnati Enquirer (OH). “The orchestra announced this week that award-winning hip-hop artist Common will make his Cincinnati Pops debut on Oct. 25, with direction from Pops principal guest conductor Damon Gupton. Additionally, singer-songwriter-pianist Ben Folds will perform an orchestra show with the Pops on April 25, 2023…. According to a release, Common will perform a medley of tracks pulling from his 30-year-spanning discography for his first-ever Cincinnati Pops show. In 2016, he performed ‘Glory,’ his and John Legend’s Academy Award- and Grammy Award-winning song from the movie ‘Selma,’ at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s sold-out Classical Roots concert. Ben Folds will make his return to Music Hall following his sold-out Pops show in 2017. According to a release, the former Ben Folds Five frontman will perform songs like ‘The Luckiest,’ ‘Capable of Anything’ and ‘Landed.’ ”
