“A new figure is headed to the podium at Severance Music Center. Earlier this week, the Cleveland Orchestra announced the appointment of Daniel Reith as assistant conductor, starting in September,” writes Zachary Lewis in Friday’s (5/27) Plain Dealer (OH). “He also will serve as director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra. Reith succeeds associate conductor Vinay Parameswaran, who been with the Cleveland Orchestra since August 2017. Assistant conductors typically hold the post for two or three years. As assistant conductor, Reith will aid music director Franz Welser-Möst and serve as cover conductor for performances at both Severance Music Center and Blossom Music Center. He also will preside over many education and community concerts and fully helm the Youth Orchestra…. Reith comes to Cleveland from Norway, where he has enjoyed a run of successful debuts with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and the Trondheim Symphony, among others…. He holds a degree in from the Norwegian Academy of Music and regularly engages in performances of chamber music as a pianist…. Along with the announcement of Reith’s appointment, the orchestra also unveiled the 2022-23 Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra season.”
