Orpheus@Mannes launches free weeklong chamber-orchestra seminar, focusing on shared musician leadership

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the Mannes School of Music in New York City have announced Orpheus@Mannes, a weeklong chamber orchestra intensive inspired by Orpheus’s collaborative leadership model. Since Orpheus’s founding in 1972, Orpheus musicians have worked together to perform without a conductor or other central authority figure. Their method guides collaborative participation across all aspects of the organization, from performance to programming to governance. To instill entrepreneurial and cooperative principles in the next generation of musicians, Orpheus is launching Orpheus@Mannes, a new weeklong chamber orchestra intensive in partnership with Mannes School of Music, at The New School's College of Performing Arts, June 9-15, 2019. The program will focus on giving pre-professional musicians needed communication and collaborative skills. The program is tuition-free to all participants. The program is currently accepting applications for the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, and percussion (must include timpani). All applicants must be 18-26 years of age at the time of the program. Questions may be directed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
